Writer, academician. During the Asia-Minor Disaster he was captured by the Turks and sent to Labour Battalions, while his family fled to Mytilene. His experiences from the Battalions were published in serialised form as No. 31328 in the Kampana newspaper of Stratis Myrivilis. His long practice encompassed almost all forms of writing – novels, short stories, essays, vignettes, biographies, travel books and the play Bloc C. In 1927 his short story “Death” was awarded by Nea Hestia. His book No. 31328 was published in Mytilene in 1931. In 1932 he moved to Athens and worked for the Bank of Greece. Tranquility (Dec. 1939) received the State Literary Award and a commendation by the Academy of Athens. In 1943 he published Aiolian Land and in 1952 Archbishop Damaskinos. After the war he was active in the country’s intellectual life through official posts, as Managing Director of the National Theatre of Greece, Vice-Chairman of the Board of the National Opera, President of the Thessaloniki Film Festival. In 1957 he was elected to the Academy of Athens. His play Mount of Olives was performed in different public spaces during ANALOGIO 2010, II. Topos/Eressos.
