Elena Houzouri
Elena Houzouri has published six poetry collections, one collected edition of her poems, and the novels Dark Vardaris (Kedros, 2004; Patakis, 2019), A Homeland Made of Cotton (Kedros, 2009; Patakis, 2024), Twice Innocent (Kedros, 2013), Uncle Abraham Is Always Here (Patakis, 2016), and On the Dark Side of the Moon (Patakis, 2021). She has also published the studies The Thessaloniki of Giorgos Ioannou (Epikentro, 2012) and Military Life in Modern Greek Literature (Epikentro, 2020), as well as the biography A Soul Dressed in Air – Anthoula Stathopoulou-Vafopoulou (Epikentro, 2025). Her novels have been translated into French, German, Serbian, Turkish, Bulgarian and Romanian. They have also been shortlisted for the Greek State Literary Awards and for the literary awards of the magazines Diavazo and Anagnostis, as well as the Athens Prize for Literature. Uncle Abraham Is Always Here received the 2016 Prose Award of Klepsydra magazine, while her novel Dark Vardaris was nominated for the Balkanika Prize in 2006. For many years, she worked as a journalist specializing in culture and books, in the print press, radio and television. She is a founding member of the online literary magazine O Anagnostis and a regular contributor to the online magazines bookpress.gr and Chartis. She is a member of the Journalists’ Union of the Athens Daily Newspapers (ESIEA) and of the Authors’ Society, where she has served twice as Vice President and twice as General Secretary.
