Sissy Papathanassiou is a historian, essayist, dramatist and translator.

She has studied Law, Theatre and Cinema in Greece. She continued her studies in Social Anthropology, History of Civilizations, and Theatre in Paris. Her research and artistic interests revolve around history, ancient Greek literature & drama, their re-writing & reception nowadays, and the dialogue between Greek literary, dramatic & stage writing and the international scene.

In 2004 she founded the still-running Analogio International Festival, an institution for drama, writing, literature and the arts.

She has written extensively, edited numerous books, curated exhibitions lectured at universities & institutes and served inter alia as Head of the Readings Department -National Theatre of Greece, on the Board of Directors -International Theatre Institute Gr/Unesco & on the Greeklit translation grant programme.
