Nothing for nothing
The play
The adventure of the human existence in the reflection of the adventure of an actor. In this play by George Dialegmenos the archetypal figure of the actor, on the verge of being sacrilegious, that lives between the past and the future, trying to balance in its present, is accompanied by the anxiety of all the preceding centuries and all those centuries that are yet to come. The relentless anxiety of the effort to maintain the passion, the body, the memory, which is not that of the individual, but it is that which arrives from the depth of centuries.
Excerpt from the play
I am your … your seventy-five year old son… my name is Adamantios Fitizas… the son of the washer-woman… Andriani; the son of Andriani, guilty by birth, who finds himself in the waiting room for those about to die, and who sees old age advancing with undignified speed, is going cr… cr… crazy, crazy, mother. At age eleven? Ten? Twelve? You used to send me … to various houses in the neighbourhood, every month on the first of the month, to first foot the house for good luck and a tip. Lemon verbena, thyme, marjoram and basil with all the herbs on earth give rise to a paste, like amber, so the body could be embalmed within it.
