When they dream of Lilly
The play
Lilly, a twelve-year-old girl, is killed in an accident under circumstances that remain vague. A storm of grief sweeps through her family and the family of the Teacher with whom she was in love.
Excerpt from the play
Mum, don’t you remember me any more? Where is Laura? Mummy, tonight, with the city on fire, let’s go out. I can ride my bike really well, do tricks in the saddle. Let’s go. Find the Teacher. Get up. Put on your raincoat. I always wear this teensy weensy skirt. I won’t take it off for anything. Even at my funeral, you dressed me in it. It would be so unfair to be dead and not have the skirt I love so much.
