The first Phanariot Greek to rule Moldavia and Wallachia and an outstanding exponent of Early Greek Enlightenment, he wrote among other works the pioneering novel The leisure hours of Philotheos (1717) and the treatise Liber de Officiis (1719). The erudite ruler compiled the largest library in SE Europe and took active part in the heated debates among the Western intellectuals of his time. The leisure hours of Philotheos, written in ancient Greek, was translated into modern Greek for the first time by Dionysis Chatzopoulos and presented in ANALOGIO 2016, directed by Spyros Vrachoritis and Sissy Papathanassiou. In 2017 the work was first published in modern Greek, 300 years since it was written in 1717, in an annotated edition by the academician Jacques Bouchard, with support from the Municipality of Filothei-Psychiko and the St. George Church of Neo Psychiko. <\/p>\n\n
