He meets Her. During the Coronavirus pandem<a>i<\/a>c. He wants Her. The Bee Gees\u2019 song Stayin\u2019 Alive is their common ground. Sort of. And Coronavirus is lurking.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Excerpt from the play<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">M: D\u2019you often go to Paris?<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I: It\u2019s my first time. My sister\u2019s getting married and I\u2019m going for the wedding. What about you?<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">M: My sister separated and hasn\u2019t remarried since. Well for the past two weeks, that is. Drama!<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I: I meant, do you often go to Paris?<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">M: It\u2019s my fourth time. I have a close friend, I stay with. He\u2019s Greek too, a fuel engineer, he\u2019s lived in Paris for years.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I: Are you a fuel engineer too?<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">M: Sort of. I\u2019m a barman. What about you?<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I: I\u2019m a dental technician. You know, bridges, crowns, caps, dentures.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">M: Dentures are great.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Directorial note<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sakis Serefas has written an anecdotal one-act play with adolescent wit and black humour and once again brings his characters face-to-face with an unavoidable culmination.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the pandemic a woman and a man meet in an airport waiting room and the predicament has already been created.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Will they overcome the limitations of the private universe of their own loneliness? Are they ready to get involved in an exercise of death, which, by definition, love is?<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A profound existential drama, a conflict between life and death, creation and loss, which commences from the most primitive parts of the self. <strong>[<\/strong><strong>Maria Aiginitou]<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Sakis Serefas<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sakis Serefas writes poetry, prose and plays.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His poetry collection <em>Whales<\/em> was awarded a Lambros Porfyras Award by the Academy of Athens (2022).<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His plays: <em>Hands<\/em> won the first prize for a short-form play at the international competition of the International Analogio Festival for staged readings (2021).<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Yum-yum<\/em> received the first prize for a contemporary Greek play from the Association of Greek Theatre Critics at the Karolos Koun Awards 2007<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Melted butter<\/em> was put forward by the Greek Ministry of Culture and staged at the International Festival of Sarajevo (2012);<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Mission to Planet Earth<\/em> received the Ministry of Culture Award in 2007<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The Road Will Take You<\/em> is included in the list of \u201c120 best contemporary European plays\u201d issued by the European Theatre Convention in 2010.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His book <em>A dinosaur on my balcony<\/em> received the National Award for a Children\u2019s Knowledge Book (2008).<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Road taken, <em>road left behind received<\/em> the National Award for a Children\u2019s Literary Book (2013).<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>A hole in the water <\/em>received the Penelope Maximou Prize for 2012 from Greek IBBY (2012).<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Thessaloniki in the first person<\/em> (text: Sakis Serefas, photographs: Haris Yakoumis archive) received the Milos Prize and was published in French by Kallimages (2005).<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He wrote the script for the full length feature film <em>Rouleman<\/em> (2004). <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Stayin<\/strong><strong>\u2019<\/strong> <strong>Alive<\/strong><strong>, Death you moron<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Playwright: Sakis Serefas<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Director: Maria Aiginitou<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":0,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false},"class_list":["post-723","play","type-play","status-publish","hentry"],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/analogiofestival.org\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/play\/723","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/analogiofestival.org\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/play"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/analogiofestival.org\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/play"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/analogiofestival.org\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=723"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
