{"id":729,"date":"2025-08-27T21:44:16","date_gmt":"2025-08-27T18:44:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/analogio.pcinfo.work\/play\/las-palmas\/"},"modified":"2025-09-03T10:46:44","modified_gmt":"2025-09-03T07:46:44","slug":"las-palmas","status":"publish","type":"play","link":"https:\/\/analogiofestival.org\/en\/play\/las-palmas\/","title":{"rendered":"Las Palmas"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The play<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The volcano of Cubre Vieja in Las Palmas is starting to rumble.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the column of white smoke rises from the crater and spreads out over the Canary Islands, five people will meet by chance at an OPAP betting shop in a neighbourhood near the centre of Athens.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All night long they watch the live feed about the volcano activity using the social media of a young student, Marina.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By dawn the plumes of lava erupting bring to the surface wounds, secrets and betrayals of a life spent on a deadline. Their earlier bliss will be covered by volcanic ash. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Excerpt from the play<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SOFIA: Between two consecutive actions there is a period of time \u2013 nobody can say how long \u2013 when it is calm\u2026 no activity\u2026 maybe a little\u2026 almost\u2026 as if nothing is happening\u2026 they fall into lethargy\u2026 they feel sleepy\u2026 an irresistible sleepiness\u2026 they fall asleep\u2026<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">GIORGOS: Are you kidding me?<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SOFIA: Not at all, that\u2019s what he said. They feel sleepy. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">GIORGOS: Sleepy?<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SOFIA: \u2026this sleep\u2026 no, not sleep\u2026<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">GIORGOS: I told you, there\u2019s no way.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SOFIA: (<em>motioning him to stop talking)<\/em> \u2026 not exactly\u2026 its kind of like a hibernation\u2026 they aren\u2019t always in a state where they are active\u2026 just like you slow down the beats of the heart\u2026 a way to survive in extreme cold\u2026<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">APOSTOLIS: But who is she talking about?<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SOFIA: We can\u2019t make any sense like this.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">GIORGOS: She\u2019s talking about the volcano.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">APOSTOLIS: But whose is the heart?<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SOFIA: I really can\u2019t, you\u2019re making me dizzy.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">GIORGOS: Be quiet, so she can hear.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">APOSTOLIS: You\u2019re the one interrupting.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">GIORGOS: I just asked a question.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">APOSTOLIS: So did I.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Sofia turns up the volume and goes to stand before the screen.<\/em><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SOFIA: \u2026 the heat is transferred from the hotter to the colder body until both bodies \u2013 or as many bodies as are involved \u2013 end up being the same temperature\u2026<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Maria Aiginitou<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maria Aiginitou is an actor and director. She made her first appearance as a director in 2015. Focusing on Greek playwriting, she was worked with texts by young Greek playwrights and novelists. She is also involved in adapting literary texts for the stage.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She has staged work by Vangelis Hatziyannidis, Sakis Serefas, Lena Kitsopoulou, Yannis Makridakis, Eleonora Stathopoulou and younger authors.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She has written three stage plays.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Directorial note<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Seven people deep in the pursuit for happiness. Seven incomplete narratives in the deserted landscape that follows the eruption of a volcano. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No myth, no locus, no time.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A natural phenomenon of colossal dimensions on the faraway island in the Atlantic will overturn their life as they knew it to that day. Eruptions awaken old ashes. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under the surface of matters and of internalized guilt, under their farcically candid naivet\u00e9, is a link to all that which all the people want deeply, contact with the self, with the other with the group.
