{"id":768,"date":"2025-08-27T21:44:53","date_gmt":"2025-08-27T18:44:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/analogio.pcinfo.work\/play\/antigone-the-strangers-and-the-fire\/"},"modified":"2025-09-05T15:02:25","modified_gmt":"2025-09-05T12:02:25","slug":"antigone-the-strangers-and-the-fire","status":"publish","type":"play","link":"https:\/\/analogiofestival.org\/en\/play\/antigone-the-strangers-and-the-fire\/","title":{"rendered":"Antigone, the strangers and the fire"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The play<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the refugee camp where the contemporary Antigone works, the refugees go on hunger strike in a desperate attempt to raise public awareness about the unacceptable conditions under which they live and waste their lives after a protest \/ fire that gets out of control.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A series of events serve as Antigone\u2019s wake-up call and she begins a struggle against all forms of injustice, be it family, local and worldwide, defending Justice and Truth for those who are weaker and marginalised. Will justice be served? Or will she be put to death, as she is in Sophocles\u2019 tragedy?  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With clear references to Sophocles\u2019 <em>Antigone<\/em> and to current events, a new play will bring centre stage current events along with timeless questions.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Excerpt from the play<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nobody can contain the flow of people. They are like the sea, a circular dance, as the world goes round. Whatever you place in its path, no matter the obstacle, it will break, it will disintegrate. Everything, for all time.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Penny Milia<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Penny Milia is a poet, an author and a performer from Athens. She has received awards from the Panhellenic Union of Writers and the Union of Writers \u2013 Novelists of Europe for her poetry and from the Scriptwriters Guild of Greece for her play <em>Spanish summer <\/em>(Kapa Publications, 2019; staged in 2019 at Beep Theatre). <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her play <em>Antigone, the strangers and the fire<\/em> gained recognition at the Festival of Contemporary Greek Plays entitled <em>W<\/em><em>e <\/em><em> <\/em><em>are<\/em><em> <\/em><em>all<\/em> <em>D<\/em><em>ifferent<\/em> in London and her one-act play <em>The game<\/em> was presented at the ATAKA 2025 theatre festival.
