Excerpt

…all the roads that used to lead to Troy became escape routes… if you wish to find some path to the city now, look for the refugees as they are chased by crows or keep an eye out for those crossroads where women, dressed in black, ask the passers-by: ‘did you see a man who looks like this, a girl who looks like this, my child looks like this…’

…Troy exists no more, nor was anyone of my kin left back in Ilium… the ones that remain, they still stumble about with a fardel on their backs… begging for food, or they hole up in stables fearfully, to sleep …And the ones that grow weary of it all, just lay down and perish at the side of the road…

Summary

Descendants of the House of Atreides organize a memorial supper in the house of Pholus, the middle-aged farmer and husband of Electra. The supper is attended by all members of the family –the living and the dead. By now, they have all reconciled their differences, and regret about their actions lingers; there is a desire to make amends in the air. However, even as they sit together at the table, and despite the constant efforts by the dead to contact the living, communication between them appears to be impossible at this point.
