Distance and Transports
• Airport – Athens City Centre – approx. 20 kmfrom the AIRPORT to the Center of
Athens:
OPTION 1: At the airport there is a BUS, X95, Express to SYNTAGMA (very well known to everyone at the airport). It costs 6 euros per person, it departs every 15-20 minutes and it takes about 60 minutes (depends on the traffic) to arrive at SYNTAGMA.
OPTION 2: You can take the metro,( Line 3 -BLUE line to SYNTAGMA.. Αt Syntagma you make the transert to Line 2 -RED line towards Anthoupoli. You get out at Omonoia square). It costs 10 euros per person, it departs every 20-30 minutes and it takes 50 minutes.
OPTION 3: You take a TAXI from the airport, it costs 38 EURO for the CENTER. There are always taxis at the airport, just outside the Arrivals, departing any time. The price is FLAT, STANDARD, you don’t pay any extra for the luggage. (this price for the taxi is between 5:00 in the morning until 12:00 at midnight). TOTAL COST: 38 EUROS (flat price).
General Information
Language
The native language is Modern Greek. English is widely spoken as a second language by the majority of Greeks.
Time
Greece is two hours ahead of Greenwich Meantime (GMT).
Electricity
The electricity current in Greece is 220v, 50Hz and the socket type is European standard (two pins).
Weather
The climate in Greece is typical of the Mediterranean climate: mild and rainy winters, relatively warm and dry summers and, generally, extended periods of sunshine throughout most of the year. In September the weather is usually warm and sunny and the temperature reaches 26°C.
Health
Travel insurance is always recommended. The organizers of the festival are not responsible for travel insurance.
Shopping
Shops are open on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm and from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Many tourist shops are open from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. Malls and some retail stores in shopping areas may be open from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.
Travelling in & around Athens
The Athens public transportation network offers a wide variety of routes, combining many different means, namely the metro, railway, buses, trolleybuses and trams. With a €1,40 ticket anyone can move around using one or more means of transport within 1 hour and 30 minutes. Tickets are available at all metro and train stations, as well as at some kiosks on the streets. Day or weekly passes are also available offering public transport at a discounted rate.
Integrated Ticket: 1,40 € (valid for multiple trips on all public transport options, in urban zone – buses, trolleys, tram, metro, suburban railway-, in any direction for up to 90 minutes).
Airport Express Bus Lines Ticket: 6€ (valid only for one trip from or to the airport) Airport Metro and Suburban Railway Ticket: 10€ (valid only for one trip from or to the airport)
Day ticket: 4,50€ (valid for all means of public transport for 24 hours – Airport supplement applies)
5 days ticket: 9€ (valid for all means of public transport – Airport supplement applies)
Currency & Banking
The currency of Greece is the Euro (€). All major credit cards are widely accepted in Greece. ATMs and Exchange Offices are widely available. Banks are open to the public from Monday to Thursday 08:00 to 14:30 and Friday 08:00 to 14:00, except for public holidays.
