IN KORAKOVOUNI

Description
In a remote, abandoned Greek village, the inhabitants are slowly wasting away. Reality offers them nothing but misery. A deus ex machina —in this case, a young schoolteacher at the beginning of her career, who arrives in the village for her first appointment—, determined not to fall into the despair imposed by her new surroundings, begins to invent, imagine and generously dispense the illusion that everyone longs for. Like a witch casting her spells, she creates a kingdom of illusion, creating a national hero.
A metaphor for modern Greeks, who refuse to confront reality and survive —alas!— through the redeeming power of illusion.
Excerpt
