Description

A man and a woman meet face to face to give an account of the deeds and mistakes of a life they could not bear to confront together. He chooses to flee. She chooses silence and tolerance. For both, there is the dead end of a difficult era, in a homeland that leaves no room for dreams, where survival demands in return the cost of belonging, owing and submitting. A man and a woman dare to claim their freedom through a “Deposition” of self-knowledge and redemption.

Excerpts

IULIA: Why do you want to leave?… You were asking for the opportunity. Don’t try to give me excuses. Why do you want to leave?
ALEKOS: Because it’s the best for all of us.
IULIA: Did you ever love me, Aleko?
ALEKOS: Conversations like that lead nowhere.
IULIA: I’m not asking you about now. About whether… Once… If there was once something between us…

ALEKOS: Distance cannot be dealt with. Denial.
IULIA: Denial?
ALEKOS: Let’s not say any more. It’s too late.
IULIA: You went and hid in prison.
ALEKOS: I didn’t hide.
IULIA: During my visits, they searched my bag, my wallet… I made you a cake… They crushed it and turned it into crumbs on the counter. I told them not to throw it away. I took it and left it on the pavement for the sparrows to eat.
